Look to the Number One Home Security Provider for Your Peace of Mind – ADT

ADT is now the leading home security provider in the U.S. Having bought out Broadview Security (who used to be Brinks Home Security in 2009) in 2010, they are even bigger. With the addition of Broadview, ADT now has two more monitoring centers to provide even better coverage. You just may want to check out ADT to be your home security provider.

Unlike what Protect America’s (who is reviewed in another article) literature says, ADT does offer wireless security systems in two of their home security packages. The other three are hardwired packages.

Window and Door Sensors

Each basic package come with two window/door sensors. This means you will need to add more sensors to provide overall home security. Most homes have more than two windows. This staff member’s living room has three windows alone. This will be an additional expense you must expect.

You may have to purchase more door sensors as well. As explained in another article on this site, an additional door sensor could come in handy to place on a child’s bedroom door or the door to the room of an Alzheimer’s patient if you have reason to believe either may wander in the middle of the night or other times when not under constant supervision.

Two of the packages offer additional monitoring services which include, fire, critical conditions and cellular backup. The last one will connect your system to ADT if your landline phone is out.

Medical Alert System

There is also a medical alert system available that allows you to connect over the phone or by way of a two-way voice intercom should a problem arise. This is done by wearing a pendant or a wristband which contains the button to push if there is a problem. We are sure you have seen the commercials on TV. There’s even an AARP discount that will save you a little money on this part should you be a member.

With its battery backup, the base unit will work for an additional 12 to 20 hours if the power goes out. The base unit even has a light that comes on to help remind you to test your medical alert system on a monthly basis to be sure it is all working OK. And with this system you can safely work out in the yard or garage as it will work up to 300 feet away.

On the ADT website itself there is a home alarm system touchpad demonstration that you can run to see what it is like to punch in the numbers if you so desire.

ADT offers a wide array of additional options such as the lighting solutions which allows you to turn on all the lights at once, light just an exit path or even flash the outside lights if you think there is an intruder prowling around. One additional service will let you talk to ADT personnel when an alarm sounds. This is supposed to be an additional service to the medical alert system.

Video Surveillance

Another option available through ADT is video surveillance. The company calls this Safewatch VideoView. You can add as many video cameras as you wish to the interior and outside of your home. Any triggering event will have 30 seconds recorded. Up to 30 days will be saved on a DVR. Such events can be downloaded or duplicated when needed.

Depending upon the package chosen, and there are four video surveillance packages available, you can have up to 12 indoor color cameras. Three of the packages have up to 12 cameras that can be used either indoors or outdoors, but not in addition to the above 12 indoor cameras.

All packages include the installation, the equipment and materials, a router and the remote viewing services meaning you can view what is going on at your home on an Internet connected computer, cell phone or PDA since the cameras load what they see to a remote server. You will go to a specific secure website to see what the cameras are seeing.

You can even store up to 50MB online but you will be charged monthly for this storage. If you set up a TV or monitor inside your home, you can see the view of any of the cameras while at home as well.

ADT also provides upgrades to their video surveillance service. These include a dome camera which can tilt, pan and zoom. An upgraded DVR of up to 250GB is available. A splitter that will allow you to view four cameras at once on the same screen or monitor.

If home security means more to you than just adding burglar alarms and protecting your home from intruders, then ADT can help there as well. With their ADT Pulse service they will monitor not only for burglars but also for fire and carbon monoxide. What’s more you can add water or flood sensors to your home in case you worry about something springing a leak or flooding is a problem in your area. They can even adjust your home’s lights and thermostat. Just all kinds of goodies are in this package.

Monitoring Service and Costs

In addition to all of the above home security options, ADT also offers 24/7 monitoring service from about $30 per month. As you add services above the standard installation package, your monitoring service fee will go up.

Presently you can get the ADT basic package, Safewatch QuickConnect Plus, for $299 with a $200 cash back certificate. In order to qualify for this cash back you pay the minimum of $299 upfront and sign up to a 36 month monitoring service CONTRACT at a minimum of $42.99 per month. You will have to follow specific instructions at MyADTRebate.com in order to get this cash back and be sure you know your offer code so you can do it. Make sure your phone number matches whatever number you used on your ADT bill and service agreement. It will take 4 – 6 weeks for you to get this after registering. This offer is only valid for new ADT customers through June 2011 as of now and is not valid on purchases from ADT authorized dealers which leads to another point.

There are other fine points in the “small print” available here, https://www.adt.com/legal?wgc=terms_and_conditions, such as “System with installation price of less than $600 to remain property of ADT.” so be sure you check it out before ordering either by Internet or phone. You may find some details vary by state, where you actually buy your ADT service, what offer you are trying to sign up under, and from whom you buy the package. The present offer does not include a $25 connection fee.

Authorized Dealers

We will give one last piece of advice concerning an ADT home security system or ADT monitoring services. If you are interested in an ADT system, deal with the ADT corporation and not an “authorized dealer” if you can help it. While you may do very well with an authorized dealer, many people end up having a not so happy experience. Be sure who you are dealing with even if the person who shows up at your door is wearing clothing with ADT logos.

An ADT authorized dealer will install your equipment and then is supposedly responsible for it for the first 90 days. This is when ADT is supposed to take over the servicing as well as the monitoring. However there have been reports of dealers not using official ADT equipment and that this equipment may not meet ADT specifications requiring you to buy new equipment in order to take advantage of the monitoring service you are on contract to pay for. We are sure there are dealers who do take the time to check out the background of any employees they hire and to fully train them. We are just as sure that there are others that do not. A very good site to read more about this is http://www.alarmsystemreviews.com/adt-corporate-vs-authorized-adt-dealers.html.

For more details about ADT authorized dealers, why it’s a good idea to complain about them to ADT corporate, some of the fine details about the contract you sign for ADT services as a home security provider and some information about possible equipment problems if you use VOIP check this out at http://www.alarmsystemreviews.com/adt-review-cont-153.html.

Customer Reviews

You may also wish to check out the reviews made by different customers. For positive reviews you can of course visit the ADT main website at adt.com. For some reviews by a few happy customers and miles of unhappy ones, visit http://www.alarmsystemreviews.com/unbiased-adt-alarm-reviews.html.

Conclusion

Now in reviewing those you may decide that ADT can’t do anything right except get you into a 36 month monitoring service contract. However, you will find these type of comments about any home security provider and you should realize that some of these, maybe even the majority, may actually be about the authorized dealer and not corporate ADT. ADT is the number one home security provider in the U.S. and also provides services to 90% of Fortune 500 companies.

The bottom line is read and know what is in a contract you sign and if at all possible, stay away from an authorized dealer unless you really know who you are dealing with.

Is Protect America the Right Home Security Provider for You?

Protect America is one more of the top home security providers available to protect your home in the U.S. At certain places like TopConsumerReviews.com, this company rates 5 stars although that website appears to have an affiliate relationship with the company meaning they make money from PA if you go through their link and purchase a system. (They also have one with ADT it appears.) However, that site could have a real appreciation of the company just as this one does of amazon.com which is what all the product pictures below have in common.

What Does Protect American Offer?

They offer five different plans where you can get the equipment for free. As the equipment is all wireless, it is easier to install and is generally installed by the homeowner. PA ships the equipment to you for the plan you have chosen. If you feel you can’t install this equipment which is relatively easy, then there are installers available to help you at a price.

What You Get

Protect America Home Security offers various levels of starter equipment packages for free starting with the copper package that contains 3 Door Sensors, 1 Motion Detector, a GE Wireless Control Panel, an Internal Siren and a Door Chime as well as 3 Window Decals and 1 Yard Sign. The platinum package offers 3 Door Sensors, 12 Window Sensors, 1 Motion Detector, an upgraded GE Wireless Control Panel, Internal Siren and Door Chime with 3 Window Decals and 1 Yard Sign.

Additional door and window sensors are $39.50 each and additional motion detectors are $99 according to prices presently available on their website.

Sensors and Motion Detectors

Don’t have three doors to your home then you can use the extra sensor elsewhere. Where? How about the liquor cabinet? Very good idea if you have teens that are left alone at times. Other places might be the gun case, a medicine cabinet or even your filing cabinet. Another good use would be on the door of a child’s bedroom or even that of an elderly family member who has Alzheimer’s and a tendency to wander at night when no one is watching.

You can get at an extra charge a special garage door sensor which might be very nice in special areas. As the door goes up and then tilts, this sets off the sensor and alerts you that the garage door has been opened.

Other sensors that are available from Protect America to add to your home security layout are a glass break sensor, a low temperature sensor and a flood sensor.

The glass breaking one recognizes the sound of breaking glass, surprise, up to 20 feet away. This would be good to put near a sliding glass door or even your front door if you have nice glass decorative panels on one or each side of it.

The other two sensors are good for specific geographical locations.

If you live in a cold climate area or one that gets cold in the winter, the low temperature sensor will alert you when your home gets below 40 degrees inside most likely meaning your furnace has stopped working or maybe the roof collapsed under the weight of snow.

The flood one should be place in a basement so it can detect when water shows up. Usually the lowest point of your home will flood first. However, when the river is rising we are not sure you would really need such a thing. Guess it depends upon the scenario you can come up with.

While the one motion detector you get may watch over an area up to 35 feet and up to 90 degrees of “sight”, depending upon how your home is arranged you will most likely want more than one motion detector. And if you have a large pet over 40 pounds, it will set off the detector. Under 40 pounds, however, the detector will ignore it.

Monitoring Services

Now to get any of the above packages for free you must sign a 36 month monitoring services contract (as shown on their website right now). Remember this is a CONTRACT which they will hold you to so forget about whatever they may say over the phone. It’s what is in the contract that holds.

However, during the time you are purchasing their monitoring services, whether the equipment works or not, you can get it replaced. Or so their free lifetime warranty on equipment as shown on their website. However, some consumers complain that they could not get working equipment. Do a search to learn more.

Protect America Home Security offers different kinds of monitoring services including cellular monitoring, two-way voice monitoring, HomePulse broadband monitoring, or standard talking command station monitoring over landline. This is different from other monitoring services in that you do not require a landline which is something more and more people are giving up. Monthly monitoring fees go from $29,99 for copper package to $42.99 for the platinum package.

There is, however, a connection fee. If the following two conditions both are met, the fee will be waived.

1. Standard monitoring agreement of 36 months is signed/agreed to and you pass a basic credit check.

2. You are also required to install and activate their alarm system within 20 days of receiving it.

Canceling Protect America Services

You appear to have 3 days upon receiving the equipment to check out the system and return and/or cancel the service. So don’t mess around.

If you decide that you do not want to continue with this service after the end of your 3 year contract then you have to cancel service in writing 60 days ahead of when you want to be done. Don’t miss getting that written cancellation to them before that 60 days is up as they will automatically roll over your contract on a yearly basis and you will be on the hook for at least another year.

And if end of contract has not been reached when you decide you want out, you will have to pay the balance of the contract. Again this is a CONTRACT. Read it and know what you are getting into so you are not like so many people complaining about Protect America because they didn’t know of this information even though it is in the contract.

Consumer Reviews and Complaints

Lastly, while there are several sites online that offer consumers a place to write about their experiences with the company, this is one such place you can read and learn more about Protect America – http://www.consumeraffairs.com/homeowners/protect_america.html.

Will a Watchdog or Guard Dog Provide You with the Security and Peace of Mind You Want?

When you think about home security providers you mostly think about those security companies you see advertised on TV or online. But there are a couple of other types of security providers you should take into consideration. These include not only yourself as a DIY burglar alarm installer but also dogs who can serve two different security functions. This security function served is by being either a watchdog or by being a guard dog.

If you have done any looking online about watchdogs then you probably already know this. These two functions for dogs are broken up by what they actually do. A watchdog alerts the homeowner to the presence of an intruder. A guard, which may or may not alert you, will stop an intruder by attacking or trying to restrain the burglar in some manner.

So before you just go out and buy a dog, you need to consider what you really want it to do.

A good watchdog is going to bark at what you want it to bark at and not just anything that goes by like a bird or the squirrel running along the ground outside the window. Some dog breeds will bark at anything and others hardly bark. You want the one that will perform the watch dog function correctly so you don’t end up with irate neighbors or with a burglar in the house because the dog never alerted you.

In the book The Perfect Puppy (How to Choose Your Dog By Its Behavior), two veterinarians hooked up with almost 100 dog specialists (other vets and obedience judges) to rate the different dog breeds on many different factors. Among these were watchdog barking as defined above being that the dogs barked at what you want them to alert you to like an intruder versus dog breeds that just bark or don’t.

The group that rated the best in this watchdog barking function are as follows:

* Miniature Schnauzer
* West Highland White Terrier
* Scottish Terrier
* Doberman Pinscher
* German Shepherd
* Rottweiler

Now lest you think that all the watchdogs were big dog breeds ( though three of the above really aren’t) the second highest rated group included the following:

* Yorkshire Terrier
* Chihuahua
* Cairn Terrier

Ranging from 2 to 17 pounds as the breed standards, I think you can agree that the second group above contains dogs that are not very large.

However, it is my opinion that if you should choose one of these smaller breeds for your watchdog, let it be a back up to a burglar alarm system you have installed by a home security provider or that you install yourself. Face it. If a burglar hears a little yapping Chihuahua, that alone is not likely to deter him from attempting to break into your home.

If you want to add a guard dog to your home security plan, then you have a choice of several breeds that will fill this spot. These are going to be big dogs. This means if you make this choice, you need to do proper socialization as well as properly train the guard dog to perform its function of stopping an intruder. Basic obedience is a huge plus for these breeds just to have a good member of the family even if they aren’t used as guard dogs.

Now depending upon what list of the top guard dogs you look at you may find breeds that most Americans won’t recognize. Dogs have been bred all over the world as either livestock guardians (and they watched over the farm too) or hunters of some type. These breeds have over the years taken on guard dog duties with police forces or various military organizations around the world. Eventually they make their way into the home as guard dogs or just as great pets.

So this list below will include 10 guard dog breeds that are among the top guard dogs as a sort of compilation of different lists so the breeds are more recognizable to American readers. The list is in no particular order.

* Rottweiler
* Doberman Pinscher
* Bullmastiff
* Giant Schnauzer
* German Shepherd
* Rhodesian Ridgeback
* Staffordshire Terrier
* American Bulldog
* Akita
* Mastiff

If you are interested in some other breeds that have recently come to the U.S. check out wikipedia or even this site, http://guarddogs.bulldoginformation.com/.

As you can see, some of the breeds that are good as watchdogs also fall into the guard dog category giving you a two-fer.

From personal experience, I can tell that some of these breeds create a security factor for your home purely due to rumors and stories that have gone around. Such it was with a couple Doberman Pinschers we owned when we lived in the country. Great dogs! Just learning we had them caused some people to stay away which is information you might want to get around. The dogs certainly made people think twice about getting out of the car when they drove up.

Before you choose any of the dog breeds above to serve as either watchdog or guard dog be sure to research the breed further. Make sure it will fit in with your family situation. Some are not good for families with young children. Some need someone who will take a firm hand so the dog doesn’t take over. Others have higher levels of energy requiring lots of exercise. Make sure you know what you are getting into.

Whichever way you go, watchdog or guard dog, you will find that a dog can be a good home security provider or a great addition to your home burglar alarm system.

Is Brinks Home Security the Home Security Provider You Want?

Although this article is titled Brinks Home Security, that is a little misleading. If you came here to learn more about Brinks Home Security then you may be in for an eye opener.

Brinks Home Security became Broadview Security in 2009. Amazingly you may still find promotional ads about Brinks Home Security around the Internet even today at the writing of this article. However, should you think Broadview Security is now what you should be looking for you should know that it, too, is gone. More precisely, the company was bought out by ADT.

However, again, you will still be able to find promotional ads for Broadview around the web. Before it was assimilated into ADT, Broadview had a very good reputation in the customer service arena. In sales, it was number 2. By being bought out by ADT, the new company is now expected to hold 35 to 45% of the U.S.’s home alarm market. Since that market is increasing by about 10% every year, there is a lot of room for many of the other home security providers. This is especially true if one takes into account the many local security companies.

What Broadview Security did, as well as ADT does now, is to provide you with a home security system that will be installed by either a local authorized dealer or by corporate technicians. While the cheaper price of some of the offerings available may entice you, be aware that you will most likely require more equipment to provide full security coverage for your home than is provided in these “starter” packages.

In one such offer still online at the time of the writing of this article, you could get Broadview Security alarm system for $99. The included equipment in this offer only had 2 windor/door sensors included. I don’t know about your home, but mine contains more than 2 windows. The living room alone has more than 2 windows.

What this means is you will need to be aware that you will want to add in more home security equipment such as more sensors or an upgraded motion detector to allow for pet movement. That means your end price is going to be more than what is offered in the starter package that is used to get the company’s foot in the door, so to speak.

Now that isn’t really as bad as it sounds. Many companies offer items for sale at less than it costs to buy them knowing you will end up adding more items to your purchase. Your local grocery store does this every week. You simply don’t think about it. It is a marketing tactic and a good one just as long as you are aware of it.

Additionally Brinks Home Security, or Broadview Security, now ADT offer you a monitoring service for your new home security system. This can be a good thing provided you know some key aspects which will be covered in another article. With 2 Broadview monitoring centers added to the 4 ADT monitoring centers (plus 2 in Canada), you will be able to get service just about anywhere. Just be sure that any calls made to the center are not in addition to the monthly monitoring service you will pay for due to your location.

One last thing to be aware of is that most likely Brinks Home Security (then Broadview Security, now ADT) may use authorized dealers to do the install of equipment into your home with the contract for monitoring services then being sold to Brinks (or whoever). If at all possible, you do not want this unless you have written down who will take care of problems after installation, what it will cost, and what service charges will be to make service calls. You could get caught in a battle between the installer and the monitoring service. Not a happy place. Try to get corporate installers to mitigate some of the potential problems you will have.

Fake Security Cameras Are Inexpensive But Can They Do the Job of Protecting Your Home or Business

Protecting our homes and businesses is a multi-billion dollar a year industry, from security features to burglar alarm systems and their components to security systems monitoring services. But how do fake security cameras play into this wide range of components and systems? Some people swear by the use of fake security cameras while others think they are a waste of time and money.

The reason that many homeowners and business owners go with this technology is that fake security cameras are relatively inexpensive to purchase. Single components can go for less than $15 each and the more expensive ones, but not by much, actually look pretty authentic. Some models even come with blinking red lights to simulate a working video system and a wiring cable to look like the actual power cord.

Do Fake Security Cameras Give False Hope?

But the problem is that many times these units will give owners a false sense of security. They rely on the fact that the mere appearance of these devices will insure that their property will be safe from invaders. The fact is that professional burglars can identify units that are not real. This is why it is so important that if you decide to use these security devices that you try to get ones that are as real looking as possible.

For instance, the SVAT ISC200 Outdoor Imitation Security Camera design is based upon that of a real security camera.

Another concern is the fact that the presence of these components alone does not deter crime, even if they are real. Professional crooks know approximately how much time there is between detection and the arrival of police. A burglar will only spend approximately 8 minutes or less in a home. They know before they enter exactly where they will be focusing their search and what areas will net them the biggest cache of valuables. This argues for making sure people can’t look in your windows and not letting strangers into your home.

However, such devices could work at deterring those who try to take advantage of situations on the spur of the moment. These are thieves who may break into vehicles in a parking lot or even just vandalize them. They would also be the kids out of school for the summer who for some reason think it is so cool to remove tools and equipment from construction sites or other places when no one is around.

But going back to the professionals. They also know that with the extensive number of false alarms that the authorities have to respond to that the alarms are not taken as seriously as they once were.

And cameras are not the best first line of defense against crime since they typically do not take high quality video – especially at night. Lenses become dirty over time and owners usually forget to maintain them properly. In fact, they might not be operational for some time before the homeowner even realizes it.

Are Fake Security Cameras Right for You?

You will need to decide if fake security cameras are the right choice for you. With their low price they are best used in conjunction with other security system features or even a full scale alarm system. Use them as a adjunct to your real home security system and monitoring system from your home security provider. Fake security cameras along with signs proclaiming their use in addition to a real system with window and door sensors and more can go a long way to making your home and business safer.

The point is to not rely too much on fake security cameras by themselves. However, regardless of what you end up using, something as a crime deterrent is always better than nothing.

Are Wireless Security Systems Right for You?

With crime on the rise and more and more incidences of burglary every day, it is becoming increasingly important that individuals invest in some type of home security protection. Fortunately, these days there are a lot of good systems to choose from. There is also a wide range of prices, so there is something for everyone. You could go with a wired home security system that requires installation, or you could choose the ease and convenience offered by wireless security systems.

Naturally, a wired home security system and a wireless home security system have very different technology. One obvious difference is wires. A wired alarm system has them. A wireless home security system doesn’t have them.

With wireless security systems the various components communicate via radio waves conducted through a control panel. When this type of system was first developed, it was rather undependable. However, time and demand have greatly improved the design and performance of the wireless home security alarm system.

One tremendous advantage of wireless security systems is the fact that they are absolutely simple to install. You just set it up. You don’t have to rip out any walls or do any wiring whatsoever. There is no construction involved.

A wireless security system may be a bit more expensive than a wired home security system, but this cost may be offset by the fact that you don’t have to have any construction done. You will need to be aware of the batteries if your system uses them and keep them fresh for your wireless system to work properly and keep you protected. You will have the advantage of being able to take your wireless security alarm system with you if you move which can make it great for the apartment/condo dweller and renters.

Wireless security systems are made up of the following components:

1. Touch pads for each entrance.

2. Detectors for windows and doors.

3. Control panels at each door.

4. Cameras as needed.

5. Alarms.

All of these components communicate with each other using radio waves. They go to the main unit from the contacts set in the doors and windows. When you enter or leave, you will need to key your code into the touch pad to let the system know you are coming or going. This will turn the system off or on. You will need to be sure of a backup system in case of a power outage. With this safeguard, your home will have continuous protection.

When you enter your home or leave, you must always be sure to enter your code into the touch pad. Then your wireless home security systems turn off when you enter and on when you leave. When it is on, your system should pick up any motion or force around points of entry, which will set off an alarm. This is generally the way that wireless security systems work. This may vary.

If you will shop around, you will find a wireless security alarm system that exactly suits your needs. Before you rush out and buy one, however, it is a good idea to consult with a professional alarm installer. Have him or her look over your situation and make recommendations as to what wireless security systems will work best for you. This initial expense will prove to be well worth it when you go to choose and install your system.

What Kinds of Home Burglar Alarm Systems Are Available?

You will be glad you invested in a home burglar alarm. There are so many different types to choose from, you are sure to find one that suits your needs and pocketbook.

Having a home alarm system will relieve any worries you have had about your prized possessions and the safety of your home. You will be at peace in the knowledge that you have taken positive steps to protect your home and belongings. A burglar alarm can be very inexpensive, and it is an excellent investment. If you are a homeowner, you definitely need a burglar alarm system.

There are essentially two main kinds of home burglar alarms. The first is a closed circuit system. With this type of system, if a window or door is opened, it breaks a circuit. This sets the alarm off.

The second type is an open circuit home security system which works in exactly the opposite way. If a point of entry is breached, the circuit is completed, setting off the alarm.

You can choose the sophisticated motion sensor system. This type of home burglar alarm will be sensitive to any motion within a given area. When it senses motion, the system will send a signal to a control panel. This panel analyzes the signal to determine whether or not the movement is suspect. If so, it reacts according to your instructions by letting the police or your home security monitoring system know and/or by blaring an alarm.

Fortunately, you can adjust your motion sensor so that it does not pick up on every little movement. Pets and people and things that usually move around your house should be able to do so without sounding an alarm. You can fine tune your motion sensor home burglar alarm system so that it just picks up only on unusual activity on and around your property. These systems are affordable and easy to use. For these reasons they are very popular.

You will want to have motion sensors and magnetic switches for your home burglar alarm setup. The magnetic switches are to guard the doors and windows. Motion sensors are for guarding bigger rooms like halls and living rooms. They can even monitor the outdoors around your home like your driveway. Having the two combined is a good way to protect your home completely.

Something else you can do is add a security camera to your home alarm system. It’s easy and inexpensive to buy a video camera now. You can set it up in a strategic place near the edge of your property. Then you can see the images from that area on your monitor.

In this way you can keep an eye on what is going on at points outside of your home. Just be sure to cover all points of access to your home and property. You can also make a videotape of anything that might occur. This is a good way to keep a record of information about events around your property if it is ever needed.

Home burglar alarm systems can be gotten from home security providers. These companies include remote monitoring in their services. If you purchase such security monitoring, you will have the comfort of knowing that your home is always under a watchful eye.

If your home burglar alarm goes off, the home security provider will call the police or send a security guard to check on things. You will always know that your home is being protected.

How to Choose Between Home Security Providers

Keeping your family safe is one of the most important parts of home protection. Many families choose to have security systems installed in their home as a way of making sure that their family and their belongings remain safe whether they are home or outside of the house. However, some people are concerned about the best way to choose between home security providers. Here are some time-tested tips about how to choose a home security company to make you feel safe.

One of the biggest issues that many homeowners have when looking at home security providers is what kind of employees they are hiring. There have been incidents in the past where companies have hired people who have questionable criminal histories. Giving someone access to your home and having them set up a security system should create a bond of trust. However, you need to know who you’re dealing with. Therefore, one of the most important things to ask a potential home security provider is whether or not they do background checks when they are hiring employees.

Another thing you want to ask the company is how long they’ve been in business. You want to make sure that you’re using a stable company so that you will always have good security monitoring systems. In other words, you don’t want to choose a company that’s only been around for a short time and may not still be in business five years from now. Stability is the name of the game when it comes to home security providers.

You also want to find out whether or not they will be selling you a home security system or whether you will be leasing it each month. You want to find out how much the monthly home security monitoring systems service is and what it covers. For instance, does the system cover fire protection?

Another important factor you need to ask anyone who is doing work in your home is whether or not they are bonded and insured. If someone is going to cause any damage while installing a home security system, you want to make sure that they have the proper insurance to cover it.

These are just a few of the things that you need to make sure to ask home security providers before allowing them to have your business. In further articles we will address some of the specific home security providers and their systems as well as covering other aspects of home alarm security systems.
